ddwrt gui configuration page does not display in browser

When I tried to access my linksys router (wrt54gl with ddwrt firmware) the page was hanging on "waiting for 192.168.x.x". No matter which browser I used. However I was able to access the page from another box.

When I did

it was visible that the transmission hangs at some files, like favico.ico. After downloading the whole file transmission did not end, but hanged instead. Seems like something was blocking the closing of the connection.

While troubleshooting with direct putty connection, it confirmed that the connection was sometimes closed correctly by the server (router), but sometimes was hanging.

Disabling all the protection features on firewall did not help, however uninstalling firewall did help. It is Eset Smart Security 7.0.302.26. With the help of the support from Eset we were able to find a workaround: disabling "protocol filtering" (or adding an exception there). This feature was not turned off, when turning off the protection from the main page.
